“Those souls most sensitive to the impulses of divine love have rightly seen in Joseph a brilliant example of the interior life.” — St. John Paul II
Good morning Lord.
Last night, after work, I went to visit Mary. I picked up some wild flowers along the way, and I took them to her. She got so happy. She is so special that a bunch of wild flowers gives her so much joy.
We sat outside to contemplate the moon and the stars. She told me that my sister Salome had visited her today. Salome is one of Mary’s closest friends in Nazareth. Mary told me that Salome wanted to know all about her visit to Elizabeth, and the birth of the mysterious child that everyone is talking about. Salome and Mary are as different as a lion and a lamb. Mary cherishes her silent moments while Salome can never be quiet, not even when we attend the synagogue on the Sabbath. She is always laughing and dancing, even without music. At the same time, she has a heart of gold. She is always the first one to take a plate of food to the poor man that sits by the entrance to our town, and she always helps the older ladies to carry their dirty clothing to the river or to bring the water from the well. She’s my baby sister and I adore her, even though she sometimes drives me crazy because she won’t stay quiet.
I was very tempted to ask Mary what’s on her mind that is causing those worry wrinkles in her forehead, but I decided that it would be best to leave her alone. I know, Lord, that she will tell me when she’s ready.
When I left, she hugged me. I told her that she smells like jasmine and lily of the valley. Oh, how I want these two months to fly so I can marry her and bring her into my home.
Reflection:
Joseph’s sister, Salome, had a compassionate heart. Who are the people I tend not to think about much? Who are the people I would not miss if they were out of the picture? Lord, develop in me a compassionate heart, just like Salome.
